![]() About the Book | Reading Guide | Competition | Reader Reviews Reader Reviews "Having never heard of this novel or its author I came to read this with no preconceived ideas of what was to follow. By the end of Chapter 1 I was intrigued, by the end of Chapter 2 I was hooked. Peter Jinks can certainly tell a story. The Foe family are very comfortable for the reader to observe throughout the book. They are unable to show affection and when they do it's not genuine and the reader cringes at the discomfort of the situation. In fact, the family seems to be at it's most harmonious when insulting and threatening each other. Jinks' characters come to life on the page and though the situations in which the characters find themselves can be quite uncomfortable, they are certainly unforgettable. The character of Valerie the evil stepmother is fantastically drawn and you can't help but admire her manipulative techniques. I would definitely recommend this book and have given it 8/10." - Daniela Sereno-Spicer "Hallam Foe is really well written and there are some genuinely funny parts in it, the way Hallam thinks, the way he blurts things out is quite humorous." - Paula McGerr Visit the official film website |
